Early last year, inspired by a project on Shimelle's blog called Scrap Your Day, I decided to document the 25th of each month in photos, and a few words. Although I intended to take photos through-out the day, there were a few I knew I wanted to include every month: the time I got up and went to bed, the meals I ate, a self portrait and the view out my lounge room window.
The first month was to be April and I got up at 5 in the morning, raring to go. (AM is definitely not normal for me!) The 25th of April is ANZAC Day in Australia, a day we commemorate our war dead, and I had decided to attend the Dawn Service. I'm sure the fact that I was going to be documenting the day in photos had influenced that decision. (Not necessarily logically given that most of the service is conducted in the dark!) Anyway, although I took a few photos in the early morning, I later headed out for a day trip and managed to leave my camera at home. I gave up on April and tried again in May.
I did get better.
After breakfast stopped at the post office to pick up two parcels but had to wait until after a step class at the gym to investigate them. Quick lunch as running late to catch train to meet Mum, Dad and Jenna at the MCG for Geelong v Hawthorn match – we won by 1 point, kicked after the siren. Created an amazing atmosphere, like we had won a final – we were high-fiving strangers! Mum and Dad dropped me home and gave me their old vacuum cleaner. I made spaghetti bolognese for dinner, but burnt the garlic bread, then watched the movie National Treasure on my laptop while cleaning my bedroom and desk. That was my Saturday 25th July, 2009.
Because I had taken the photos just for this purpose and didn't have anything particular to record, these layouts were fun and I played. They recorded things that probably wouldn't have made it into my scrapbook otherwise, like my commute to work or staying up till AM reading the Twilight series (for a second time.)
Yep, that's a photo of my toilet and really messy bedroom floor. These are everyday life pages, mess included. That's why they are some of my favourite layouts. They captured glimpses of my everyday life, right at that moment. Unglamourised. (Particularly my first thing in the morning photo below. Oih!) Honest.
Despite many photos of Christmas Day, I gave up on recording the 25th of December like this. Waking up in the morning I was too anxious to get to my Mum and Dad's and start celebrating (read opening my presents) to remember to take a photo of my clock. When I forgot to take a photo of breakfast I decided to give myself the day off.
That was the only 25th I missed though, from May to March. I haven't included them all here, but I have them.
When I saw the last day of Ali Edward's Week in the Life project was going to be the 25th of April, the last day in my 12 month Day of Photos series, I knew I wanted to participate.
And this time the Dawn Service was going to make it onto a page.
