This isn't a particularly recent layout, but it is one of my favourites.
It was an early start to my birthday – Jenna woke me at 6am so she could give me my present before she had to leave for house-sitting. I got more presents at breakfast – Mum and Dad gave me a magazine subscription, tickets to see Wicked with Mum, jellybeans and a couple of books and there was a parcel of things from Lyn and Erin, including a couple of DVDs, popcorn and a book.
I met Patricia, Michael and Helen for lunch, receiving birthday wishes after I told them it was my birthday (and a present a week later.)
After work I received a birthday phone call from Nicole who was in Paris, standing outside EuroDisney as she waited for it to open.
Mum and Dad took me to Il Vicolooff Lygon St for dinner. I’d been there with my honours supervisor 3 years previous and been wanting to go again. Mum and I had crispy skinned duck which was delicious and I even enjoyed the beans. Afterwards we looked around Borders, managing to lose Mum for a while.
As we’re driving home Dad asks me if I think that Mum chooses my presents. I have no idea what to make of the question but then he tells me to open the glove box. In there was a present that Dad had chosen totally on his own – 3 handbag charms from a jewelry shop in Bayswater. They were really cute - he’d done well.
All up, I had a great birthday.
This layout was inspired by an Ali Edward's one I found in an old Creating Keepsakes magazine. There are a few reasons it's one of my favourites:
- I was able to recreated the vision in my head onto paper
- the title and handbag paper is wrapping paper from a present I received that day
- I think the simplistic layout allows the personality plus photos to take centre stage
- the journaling records a lot of bits and pieces that I would like to remember from the day
- I used some supplies, stamps and embossing powder, which I don't think I use often enough
Plus, I just think it looks nice!
