On Saturday afternoon my cousin Erin married Chris - a part of the family all but officially for a few years now - on the balcony of the Melbourne Town Hall.
The ceremony was smiles, tears and laughter, and included a kazoo. Simple and full of personal significance.
Their vows to each other were lovely and may have bought a tear to my eye.
After mingling and photos on the balcony, we all walked with the bride and groom up Collins Street to their reception venue, Hare and Grace.
There were appetisers circulating when we arrived, along with some lovely sparkling wine. That's when Boyf noticed the 'wedding cake' was stacked wheels of cheese and his night was made. ;)
It was a three course dinner and all delicious. I had calamari, beautifully roasted chicken and a wasabi icecream with lemon curd for dessert. So much food but so good. And the red wine...
The bride and groom's parents gave a speech after the first course, the wedding party after the second. Chris and Erin had a sweet dance number then others were invited to join them on the floor. Love this sneaky photo of my Mum and Dad.
Is this the point I remind you it was really great red wine? ;)
My sister and her boyfriend Darren, attending his first (extended) family function. He did well. :)
It was my aunty Lyn who asked my sister and I to dance, then soon it seemed the whole family was up on the floor. None of us known for our dancing abilities, it was so much fun. So many laughs.
Facebook post, 10:42pm: Just danced to La Bamba with Mike. Got to love a wedding! - at Hare and Grace.
It's actually the first time Mike and I have danced together since we've been an 'us', and so much more successful that the only other time I can remember us dancing. (Best man and maid of honour at the wedding of friends + slow music + centre of attention = disaster!) We had so much fun at the reception, laughing and whispering and dancing together. Mum has told me a few times she so enjoyed seeing her girls happy and having a great time with our guys. :)
Then all too soon we were saying goodbye to the bride and groom and heading home.
A really wonderful evening. A favourite night.
Congratulations Chris and Erin! And thank you.
