At 7 months and 3 weeks old, Amelia is:
- Enjoying having feet. She'll hold things with all 4 hands and feet, use them to push up off anything or recline back in her highchair and hook one foot up onto the table.
- Eating sultanas with every meal. Maybe one in three actually makes it into her mouth, but putting out some sultanas on her highchair tray helps keep her occupied so she isn't trying to grab the spoon with every mouthful. It's really helping her gripping skills too.
- Eating 3 meals a day and breastfeeding about 6 times in 24 hours. We've gone a little bit backwards with regards to sleeping through the night but Milly is so interested in what's going on during the day that she struggles to feed well, preferring feeds at about 10pm and 3am.
- Sleeping from 7pm to 6:15am or so, with the two brief wake ups to feed. (We've just had a couple really difficult nights with Milly, some terrible combination of immunisations, teething and a horrible cough, but hopefully we're back to that pattern now.)
- Drinking water from a sippy cup, with just a little assistance from us tipping it up.
- Willing to try any food you put in her hands, although preferably chocolate. The kid is lucky she is so slight, as no way we'd be letting her eat so much nutritionally suspect food otherwise!
- Loving chocolate custard. It's our go-to to fill her up that last little bit after dinner or when she's too tired for much of anything else.
- Still not quite reached 6kg, and hasn't yet doubled her birth weight. She eats quite a lot though and has maintained her 1% in weight since April. Mike and I have accepted that we have an active little girl who is just going to be slight like her cousins.
- A little low on iron (and we're adding a nutritional supplement to her breakfast to help counteract that) but all other blood tests, which she had because of her low weight, came out absolutely normal. Thyroid, lactose and gluten absorption, along with a host of other things, are all fine.
- Wearing 000 for separates but almost too long for 00 in footed onsies. She has long legs but a narrow waist. Oh, and a big head. Necklines can't be too tight and narrow or we struggle to get things on.
- Has her first tooth. Bottom front, we can't really see it yet but it has definitely cut through. That thing is sharp! From the amount of drool, we're hoping to see a second very soon.
- Waving. Occasionally she'll wave at the door, her room, a tree, but is getting to be quite good at returning people's waves. We still generally prompt her, and the person can be left waving for a while before she deigns to cooperate, but she's getting quicker and more willing.
- Sitting up. She's balanced and stable now, and can easily swing herself around to lie down.
- Commando crawling. She has this cute little habit, although I haven't seen it as much recently, of turning her head to the side and pushing it along the ground as she crawls. When she first started trying to crawl she'd often flip herself over onto her back accidentally, so think she uses her head for balance.
- Enjoying playing with a balloon. Well, more trying to eat it. It's been great for helping develop her crawling though as she'll chase after it when it slips from her grip, unless she gets distracted along the way.
- Wanting to stand up, holding on to us or a couple of favored toys. She definitely has the strength but has taken a couple head thumping tumbles when her balance lets go and we haven't been quite quick enough.
- Loving her toy piano and a big wooden activity cube with threaded beads on top.
- Starting to try and pull herself up on those toys. She's not that far off managing it either, and often pulls and squirms her way up on us.
- Taking a few steps holding on to us, unprompted. The other day she held my hands and actually walked herself over to the piano! That's where she wanted to be so she made it happen.
- Developing definite opinions about what she wants and can be grizzly if she doesn't get it. Or if we can't work it out. Thankfully, she's still easily distracted.
- Fascinated by screens, phones, TV and remote controls. Mum and Dad's toys are always the most fun. Also buttons and zips are great to fiddle with.
- Likely to try and throw herself out of your arms and off the side of the couch reaching for something.
- Needing to be distracted with a toy (or shoe, or her pants) on the change mat, otherwise she's flipped over onto her tummy in a moment.
- Enjoying music and is almost starting to move a little and dance.
- Loving the sound of her own voice, but it's all squealing. I'm still eagerly anticipating her first 'mum', although there was something that sounded a lot like 'hello' the other day. Don't think it was intentional though.
- Seeming to really expect and enjoy our bedtime book. She's be all post-feed snuggled in my arms but the first sentence has her lifting her head and squirming around to help turn the pages.
- Enjoying touch and feel books, patting the pages of all books as though searching for the different textures.
- So much more relaxed with people. She still needs an adjustment period before they get too close, and she keeps track of where I am, but we might get some grizzly 'this isn't what I want' displeasure and not the 'save me' stressed screams of the past.
- Very concerned about larger dogs and other animals. She doesn't seem to know what to make of them and prefers them to stay over there.
- Strong. I'm often amazed by what she can lift.
- Generally a great sleeper at our house, but elsewhere not so much. Why sleep when there is so much to see? The car is fine and she will generally have 30 minutes in the pram at nap time, but if we're visiting someone often we don't even try to put her down. We have a port-a-cot though and I'm developing a plan of attack to, hopefully, combat this.
- A pretty easy-going baby and will sleep in and nap longer to catch up on sleep.
- Realised that she can shake her dummy when she is bored and it makes a good noise.
- Curls up in the cot with her soft rabbit blanket. It is the sweetest thing.

I am:
- Frequently amazed by what she can do. It feels like my baby is disappearing so fast and being replaced by this capable 'me do it!' little girl. I really find myself needing to stop and reassess what she is capable of, or might enjoy. I helped her down the slide for the first time the other day and my friend who was with us described her expression as, 'concerned glee' I think it was.
- Starting to have more time away from her. I went to an all day pottery class last month, leaving Milly with Mike. He was all set to meet me at lunch so I could feed her, but she surprised us by taking a bottle of milk. Yay! We're also just started (once so far) leaving her with her Grandma Julie while Mike and I head out for a while. This time was just a 40 minute coffee trip but we're planning on working up. After a career as a kindergarten teacher Julie can cope with some grizzling, and Milly isn't going to learn that we come back if we never leave! (Don't mean it's easy though!)
- Enjoying spending time with Milly more. It's one of those things that you don't realise till you're out the other side, but I definitely had a patch of drudging through the day to day, looking forward to 5:30pm when we start dinner and the bedtime routine just a little too much.
